Chaplain’s Message
The Chaplain is a full time member of staff at school and is responsible for the well-being of our boys and staff. He works with all boys throughout the school and plays an important role in the lives of our Hostel boys.
Counselling boys who are experiencing trauma, family problems, loss, and general teenage anxiety is all part of his role. He is part of the School Based Support Team, as well as the Employment Equity Committee.
The Chaplain is employed by the Board of Governors, approved by the Bishop of the Diocese of the Free State and licensed by him. (See Chapel)

House system
Everything we do at school is aimed at building relationships and creating a sense of identity and belonging to the Biancoblu (blue-and-whites) of St Andrew’s.
The House Structure is aimed at strengthening this sense of belonging, identity, brotherhood and pastoral care for our boys. We have House Heads of the senior and junior grades, along with Deputy House Heads and a team of teachers in each of these houses.
All day boys in the school belong to either one of the Day Boy Houses; Champion, Clegg or Mackenzie and the Boarders belong to the Boarding House.
The House Head, along with the team of teachers are responsible for the pastoral care of the boys in their house and will also be a primary point of contact for parents. Throughout the year the boys take part in the Inter-House competition comprising various sporting cultural, academic and service activities where they compete for the Hickling Shield (Senior) or Gould Dominy Cup (Junior).
Every year families are invited to join us at our annual House braai and picnic where families connect with the House Head and the team of teachers.

Leadership
St Andrew’s has a vertical leadership structure, offering staff and learners the opportunity to serve in various ways in the best interest of all.
The school is managed by the SGB, a body of elected members from the school community (see School Governance).
The Senior Executive of the School manage the executive, planning and policy decisions of the school and The Headmaster and Deputy Heads of each school sit on the School Management Team (SMT) which oversees the day-to-day running of the school. Each school is then in the privileged position to have 2 HOD posts.
Within the learner body, there are also leadership and mentorship roles.
Prefects
The prefects are democratically elected by the Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners annually. The prefects play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the school. They not only ensure discipline is maintained, but also undertake a number of projects to benefit the pupils and staff of Saints. They are the custodians of our proud traditions and ensure that the values and ethos of the school are transferred to younger generations of boys.
Prefects play an important role in the Hostel, as house prefects and mentors to the boarders in their house. The Head Boy lives in the hostel for the year, enabling him to keep abreast of the whole school and the day to day activities.
RCL
The Representative Council of Learners is elected at the beginning of each year by the high school learners. Two representatives are chosen from each grade to represent them on the leadership structures of the school.
These learners are responsible for building unity in the school, addressing issues and needs of all learners, encouraging good relationships within the school between all parties, promote the best interests of the school and set an example with regards to loyalty, discipline, respect, punctuality and active participation.
Health support
Sanatorium
The school has a full-time qualified Sister on duty in the Sanatorium. The Sister is on duty for the hostel and day boys and will contact parents in the event of an emergency, if your child is feeling ill or gets sick at school.
For Hostel boys, the Sister administers medication and arranges and manages all medical appointments, including dentists and physiotherapy.

SPORTS SCIENTIST
The Sport Scientist and Conditioning Coach is based in the Gym and plays an integral role in enhancing both the performance and wellbeing of the boys. Age-appropriate training programmes aimed at improving strength, speed, endurance, mobility, and resilience for all sports are developed for each sport and boy. In addition, we believe in education and awareness, equipping learners with the knowledge and habits needed for responsible training, with a focus on long-term athletic development.

Physiotherapist
The Sport and Neuromuscular Physiotherapist, is a full time staff member based in the gym. She plays a key role in supporting the physical health, recovery, and performance of the boys. We assess, treat, and rehabilitate sports-related injuries when needed. Our approach focuses not only on recovery, but also on restoring optimal movement patterns, improving stability and control, and reducing the risk of future injury. In addition, we guide learners in understanding their bodies and promoting safe participation in sport. By prioritising both rehabilitation and prevention, we support each student’s ability to perform confidently and sustainably in their sporting pursuits.

School Based Support Team
Each Saints’ boy can achieve his best and we are here to assist in reaching those goals.
We have a remedial support team at the school, consisting of a Educational Psychologist and remedial staff, which assesses each case and puts interventions in place from as early on as possible.
Our Remedial teachers work with Grade 1 – 12, providing extra lessons for Foundation Phase in English and Maths, Intermediate Phase Maths and Afrikaans, and implementing the concession process from Grade 4 to Grade 12 learners.
The school works with parents, class teachers, the chaplain, school psychologists, paediatricians and other professional services in order to assist boys from an early age.

Discipline and Bullying Policy
We believe that school is a place where learners are allowed to make mistakes without life-changing consequences. Discipline is the responsibility of all staff at St Andrew’s and there are clearly defined channels in which discipline issues are dealt with. We take a consequences, restorative approach and work with learners and their parents or guardians.
The School and Hostel Code of Conduct is available for download and outlines all procedures. The Code of Conduct is a summary of the code and is in no way complete. The Statement on Bullying is also available for download. Please see under School Governance for additional policies and codes.
