OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Life Beyond the Classroom
At St Andrew’s, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Our boys explore, create, compete, and give back through a wide variety of clubs, cultural activities, music programmes, and community initiatives. Every boy can discover his passions, develop new skills, and grow as part of the Saints family.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
Public Speaking is a valued club at Saints in both the junior and senior grades. Boys prepare and deliver speeches for competitions hosted throughout the year, including national competitions such as On-the-Tip of Your Tongue. The programme builds confidence, communication skills, and poise in front of an audience.

Drama and Theatre
Drama has been part of Saints’ tradition since the 1960s. Boys participate in inter-house one-act play competitions and major productions every second year, including musicals like Grease and West Side Story.
Every boy is involved in some aspect of performance, from acting and directing to props and stage management.

Chapel Choir
The Chapel Choir, founded in 1863, and the oldest activity at the school, welcomes boys from Grade 4 to Matric. The choir performs traditional, classical, and contemporary pieces at school services, outreach events, and tours. It is a proud tradition, one that offers belonging but also a brotherhood in music.

DEBATING
Debating at Saints helps boys engage with current issues, develop critical thinking, and improve confidence and public speaking skills.
The society is split into junior (Grades 7–9) and senior (Grades 10–12) sections, with weekly practice sessions and competitions locally and nationally.

Photography CLub
The photography club is open to boys from Grade 6 – 12 and the photos are use on a daily basis on social media, advertising and in the annual magazine.
Photography is more than just taking pictures. It is about seeing the world creatively. In this club, boys learn composition, artistic expression, and digital editing skills while capturing school events, sports, and everyday moments. The Bloemfontein Photography Club regularly assists in workshops and competitions.
All experience levels are welcome to explore and develop their visual storytelling skills.
