St Andrew’s School is pleased to announce the appointment of Reverend Ashe Steenbok, as the School’s new Chaplain. Rev Steenbok takes over from Rev Deon Lombard, who will be moving to take up a position as  Rector of the Alexandria Parish in the Diocese of Port Elizabeth at the end of the month.

Rev Steenbok was ordained in the NG Church in 2004 and has since then been in full time ministry, teaching and outreach, with a focus on youth counselling.  He qualified as a teacher in 2012 at the University of the Free State and in 2010 took up a teaching position at Kruitberg Primary School in Bloemfontein where he teaches English and Life Orientation to Grade 7’s. He is also the school’s Pastoral Guidance Counsellor. Since 2018,  Rev Steenbok has also headed up the Youth Ministry at St James Church in Bloemfontein.

Rev Steenbok has a strong personal focus on youth ministry, bullying prevention, youth bereavement and career mentoring. He also has a keen interest in hostel learners, and currently preaches at Eunice Hostel part time.

Ashe is a passionate Springbok rugby supporter and loves classic cars (owns an E200 1984)! Ashe’s family is very much part of the Saint Andrew’s family already with his son Janré in Grade 6. Sasha his daughter is in Grade 9 at Saint Michael’s and Adrian, the youngest is age 3. Sue-Ellen his wife is a Chartered Accountant.

Ashe has a strong reason for wanting to be involved in the youth, “My father died when I was in Grade 11, this shook my world, and I had no one to point me in the right direction, so I want to be the person that I never had when I was a child. Fortunately I met my wife who was a child of God, this forced me to go back to Church and I fell in love with God.”

In six months, the Anglican Bishop of Bloemfontein will ordain Rev Steenbok into the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, after which he will be known as Father Ashe Steenbok.

St Andrew’s welcomes Rev Steenbok and looks forward to the contribution that he will make to our school and the Chapel.
