Saints Music Academy shines at Battle of the Bands

The Saint Andrew’s Music Academy travelled to Johannesburg and Pretoria on the weekend of 24-25 May to play some gigs, learn a lot, and participate in the Saint Mary’s Waverley Battle of the Bands. It started slowly, but ended with a bang, which had everyone on a high.

SA no. 1 Dewan de Bruin aims high at Euro Golf Champs

24 May 2019 – For a third year in succession, Saint Andrew’s schoolboy Dewan de Bruin will fly the South African flag in international competition when he contests the US Kids 12th annual European Championships at the Craigielaw Golf Club in Scotland from 28-30 May.

Meet the Teachers: Adele Verster

23 July 2018 – Saint Andrew’s has welcomed Adele Verster to its teaching staff from the beginning of the third term. She is taking over Pierre Grobler’s grade 6 class until the end of the year as the school prepares for his retirement in August after four decades of outstanding service.

Adele previously taught technology for grades one to nine at Saint Andrew’s for five years before leaving in 2007 to return to university to do her honours in psychology. Most recently, she taught grades five and six at Eikestad Primary School in Stellenbosch.

Janco Olivier returns to teach at his alma mater

11 January 2017 – Janco Olivier attended Saint Andrew’s from grade 0 to grade 12 and has now returned to the school to teach biology, taking over from Charles Hansen, who retired at the end of 2016 after 30 years at Saints.

Since matriculating in 2012, he has remained in close contact with the school by helping to coach the boys in debating. During that time he attained a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of the Free State and then followed that with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

Headmaster Chris Thomas looks back on Saints in 2016

14 December 2016 – The Saints Andrew’s boys are on holiday and most of the staff have left for their break too, but Headmaster Chris Thomas is yet to join his children for Christmas, so we sat down with him on Wednesday and asked him one thing: to give us his thoughts on 2016 at Saints.

In-form 1st cricket team faces tough test in Zim

21 September 2016 – The Saints 1st cricket team departed Bloemfontein on Tuesday, ahead of a flight from Johannesburg to Harare on Wednesday, where they will be participating in The Rams St John’s College T20 tournament.

Coach Gregg Hobson acknowledged before his squad’s departure yesterday that they face a tough challenge. In three previous visits to Zimbabwe, Saints has not progressed beyond the semi-finals of the event.
